Originally developed in 1966, the Fisher Space Pen was designed to assist astronauts on missions, as standard ball point pens became useless in space. Paul Fisher constructed an ink cartridge that was pressurized with nitrogen so that it didn't rely on gravity to work. It was dependable in freezing cold and desert heat with the ability to write underwater as well as upside down. In 1968, astronauts aboard the Apollo 7 used the Fisher Space Pen and the company has been moving forward with advancements in their technology ever since.
